Changing your car’s engine in the UAE is allowed, but the process requires certain approvals and inspections before you can update your vehicle registration. Here’s the complete step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Initial RTA Inspection

  • Take your vehicle for the RTA inspection test.
  • The test will fail due engine change also including discrepancies in the engine number, cylinders, or fuel type.

Step 2: Technical Committee Appointment

  • After failure, the case is referred to the RTA Technical Committee.
  • You’ll receive an appointment, usually scheduled 7-10 days after the request.

Step 3: Committee Inspection and Approval

  • On the appointment day, the RTA Technical Committee inspects your engine.
  • The final decision is issued within 24-48 hours and sent to you by email.

Step 4: Final Inspection and Registration

  • Once approved, you must retest your car at the RTA inspection center.
  • Once it is passed, your car can be:
    • Registered (if it’s a new registration)
    • Renewed (if already registered)
  • The engine type will be updated in the RTA system.
