Most of the customers are asking this question. We’ve already written an article “How You Can Export Your Car From The UAE” explaining the complete process to export a vehicle, but here we’re specifically writing about Oman.

If your car is registered in Dubai, the best option is to drive your car to Oman with export plates. Here’s the step-by-step process:

Step 1: RTA Testing

Take your car to any RTA Testing and Registration Center and request an Export with Number Plate Test.

  • Cost: AED 170

Step 2: Export Insurance

Once the test passes, you need to take Export Insurance.

  • Validity: 7 to 14 days
  • Premium Range: AED 220 to AED 320

Step 3: Issue Export Certificate

Proceed to any RTA counter.

  • Hand over the number plate
  • Request for Transfer to Oman Certificate with Export Plates
  • You will receive an electronic certificate and blue plates, which must be attached to your car

Important Notes:

  • If your driver is driving your car instead of you, driver details must be provided at the RTA counter. These details will be mentioned on the export certificate.
  • You can also export your car to somebody else’s name.
    • Export certificate with blue plates charges: AED 140
  • You can issue the export certificate in your name or to any other person if you want to change the ownership along with export.
  • However if you want to export with ownership change then RTA charges will be 540 AED, as 400 AED is RTA Ownership Change charges.

At Renew My Car Registration, we also assist with export-related services and documentation if needed.

Can anyone drive the car to Oman from the UAE?

No, only the owner of the car can drive the car to Oman, however if you want someone else to drive the car to Oman then the driver's details should be mentioned in the export certificate.

Do I need to get insurance at the Oman border as well?

When you apply for export plate in Dubai you get 7 days insurance to drive within UAE, once you cross the Oman border you need to get insurance to drive the car within Oman.

After getting export plates in how many days do I need to leave UAE?

Your export plates are valid for 7 days so you need to leave UAE within 7 days.
